Katla's Blackwork Library
These are several of the 115 patterns that I have graphed from the
16th century Italian sampler located in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England. (T.14-1931). On the original sampler, most of the embroidery is in black silk but there are some patterns done in dark red silk and some in dark blue, gold-yellow, dark green and light green silk (single ply). The original work is on linen and is mostly back stitch (I know, I was surprised that it wasn't the Holbein stitch), but also includes some long-armed cross stitch.
